Ki-84. This model was built straight from the box but was given a very detailed paint job to look like
a well weathered, paint-chipped and faded aircraft affected by battle service and the elements. The Japanese publication "Famous Aircraft of the World" Ki-84 photo manual provided the necessary wartime photographs and rivet plan. I pin-pricked the rivet pattern into the painted upper body areas with a pin ( there is a base coat of aluminum paint color underneath the camouflage color ). In these sort of weather conditions paint tends to leave an outline of the rivet pattern by remaining stronger in tone. Therefore the rivet pattern was traced with very thin brush strokes to replicate this. The same pattern of paint chipping, where the pilot climbs in on the port side was copied from Tamiya's kit box art. The white flag-like national insignia denotes an aircraft participating in defense of mainland Japan. By Chris Beaumont. (24 Jan 01)

1/48 Hasegawa Ki-84 Ko, 47th Sentai markings from Aeromaster, rest of markings painted. Aeromaster/Floquil paints and weathered with pastels and oils. By Dan Salamone. (01 Feb 01)

IJA Type 4 Fighter "Hayate" (Ki-84I-ko) 1/48 Tamiya.  The kit is built basically stock except for addition of antenae lines.  There are fit and shape problems around the nose (too long) but the kit is almost 30 years old! By Hiroyuki Takeuchi (01 Feb 01)

ki-84-hugh_chun_01.jpg (24703 bytes) This is the Hasegawa's 1/48 Hayate I built. I painted with Tamiya Acrylics. The kit is very accurate especially cockpits and fowler flaps. Strongly recommend! by Hugh Chun.
