- The color you are asking about is included in the book called "Iro no tetso" (The color guide) published by "Shogakukan" in Showa 61 (1986). A colour chip is also included.

- Dear Yorgos,
- Thank you for your help. I don't have that book.
Can you describe the color?

- The best would be to send you a scan but you know my scanner problem...
The book I have is quite old and doesn't have "many" colors. But surprisingly it has "Ame Iro" and "Aodake Iro"! I'm trying to find a better Japanese color catalogue with more colors. If I have something, I'll let you know.
- Meanwhile, in the book the color is described:
Color resembling the color of the very fresh/new leaves of the willow (Yanagi). Dull/dark yellow green.
- I will try to find an approximate FS number and get back to you again.

- The "Iro no Tetso" gives a Munsell number. I don't have a Munsell deck so I don't know if it's accurate, correct or whatever. Anyway, its: 5GY 7/5.5.
I checked in my FS deck and couldn't find an exact match to the color chip that is included in this book. The closest I could come up with is: darker than 13670 and 24552. Maybe a mixture of these two colors...
- Yesterday we bought a new Japanese color guide, called: Iro no namae jiten (Dictionary of color names).
In it, Yanagi iro is included too but the color chip is quite different. I could find an exact match in the FS deck and it is 14449 or 24449. The book gives the following mixture for the color: Cyan 42%, Magenta 12%, Yellow 61%, Black 0% used for the printing of the color chip.
- Hope all the above are helpful enough. As to whether this color was used during the war or not....

- Domo arigato gozaimasu Rob. The color is very very close. As I mentioned in my other posting, the two books don't agree on their color chips. But the Munsell match you so kindly shared, is somewhere in the middle.
I have no idea if this color was used during the war. Hall san asked about this color....

- George:
- It seems a brighter, slightly greener variation of "Nakajima interior gray green" from Aeromaster.
- It also looks like "Mid-'70s Avocado Green."
- I don't know if Greece has had this, but here in the US, back in the '70s, "avocado green" was a popular color in homes, and refrigerators, stoves, ovens, porcelain-coated sinks, Formica countertops, Linoleum. and everything were available in that color. The fad lasted about 3 years, and when you shop for a house, you can often tell when it was last redecorated if it is in this color -- it's either aging and due for a redecorating job, or it was recently done (due to the resurgence of '70s things).
-
- Take care,
--Rob
