Hey, all:

I have returned from my business trip to Charlotte, NC. I came home to my wife, kids, and NEW FS-595B Fan Deck ("Hi, honey, how 'bout we get the kids to bed early and we -er, uh- HEY!!! MY FS-595B FAN DECK IS HERE!!!! OHBOY OHBOY OHBOY!!!!!") Here are the particulars:

NSN 7690-01-162-2210
FAN DECK
FEDERAL STANDARD 595B COLORS
(July 1994)

It is sixty-two 2" x 10.25" blades with 611 .5 by 2 inch color chips. I sent the order on the 23 of Jun, the fan deck arrived in less than 3 weeks. If you would like to order as I did, do this:

1. Make a CHECK payable to the GENERAL SERVICES ADMINISTRATION.
2. Write a COVER LETTER explaining specifically what you want and make sure you have your ADDRESS and CHECK NUMBER on it.
3. Put the letter, check, and a SELF ADDRESSED SHIPPING LABEL into an ENVELOPE addressed to:

General Services Administration
Federal Supply Service
Specification Section
Suite 8100
470 E L'Enfant Plaza SW
Washington, DC 20407

All in all, the order took 4 days to get there, a week to process and for the check to clear, and about 4 days for the fan deck to arrive. I was expecting the bureaucracy to kick in, but it went quite well. I am a little let down by the FS system, though. The numbering is too vague, IMHO.

I was quite surprised to find some FS model colors were a noticeable amount lighter than the fan deck chips, and some chips are right on or a little dark. I think that's partially due to the vague numbering and imprecise nature of the numbering system as well as the variances in paint.

This will be a good source for paint comparison, but I somehow feel I will have an approximate chip for comparison use only. I won't swear by the colors at all at this time.

Anyway, I have attempted to match colors on my relic sample and the FS samples are on that post.

Of course, you can also call:

I think their website is for government agencies only.

Take care,
