Can anyone furnish good drawings of this superbomber that did not get off the drawing board? I have information on it from Bunrin-do's "Japanese Military Aircraft, Illustrated, Vol. 2, Bombers" and a little from Aireveiw's "General View of Japanese Aircraft in the Pacific War." Are there any other better sources? I would appreciate any information on this airplane.

Thanks,
Steve Horn

Hey Steve,
I myself am currently in the process of scouring all sources for info on this plane. Some sources that I currently have or know are:1)The History Channel video "Last Secrets of the Axis" which has some outstanding computer graphics on what they call the Fugaku but is in actuality the Kawanishi TB bomber. This plane in short was the Kawanishi design submitted in response to the Fugaku requirements. 2)The model company Pit Road I believe makes 1/700 scale models of both the Fugaku and the TB. You can check them out at Hobby Link Japan at www.hlj.com. 3)There are back issues from Wings/Airpower magazine 1981 that have a two part article by Robert Mikesh called "Japanese Giants" that discusses Japanese heavy and super-heavy bomber projects.
Check out the magazines web site. 4)Recently released book by Shigeru Nohara called "Japanese X-planes 1924-1945". This shows a cut away view inside the fuselage. 6)I have a copy of an older publication in Japanese that has 4 pages with some interesting info and a drawing. If you give a FAX # I can forward it to you. I would like seeing the info on the Fugaku in the Burindo publication. Finally 7) just search the X-plane message board of this web site.

Steve,
My suggestion would be to go to the "HIKOKI 1946" website. The address is http://www.pelzigplatz.f2s.com/index.html. Choose "Navy Aircraft", then Nakajima G10N1.

This website is owned by Edwin M. Dyer III, our "J-X-PLANES" moderator. I think you will find the information you need (and more from this website).

Hope this helps.

Hey Steve,
To find the Pit-Road Fugaku kit at HLJ simply plug in the word "fugaku" into their search engine. The kit number is PITPM-18. It is of the Kawanishi, I am almost certain they make the actual Fugaku also. I will be faxing you a copy of the HLJ page showing this kit. Also the X-planes book by Shigeru Nohara can be ordered from kitlink.com or from Kinokuniya Books located in L.A.(they take phone orders). I will also fax you a copy of some info out of a Japanese aviation journal along with its translation. If you send me the burindo info I can try to have that translated also.

Thanks,
Ryan. I was able to get the drawing and artwork. I wonder if this the "correct" G10N1 or the alternate design known as the Kawanishi 19-Shi designated as the TB (Transoceanic Bomber)? Can anyone tell me for sure?

Steve,
In my opinion, the aircraft illustrated in Mike W.'s website is the Kawanishi 19-Shi "TB" Trans-oceanic heavy bomber.
I say this because of the eliptical wing plan. My opinion based on prevopusly viewed illustrations.

Dave,
I agree. If Mikesh's article, "The Japanese Giants" in "Wings/Airpower" magazine (2-parter) is correct (and he is not known for sloppy research), it is the TB. So, now the question is, what does the "real: G10N1 look like? The three view that appears in "Asahi Journal" is the same airplane. There are two drawings in the very rare "Japanese Military Aircraft Illustrated, Vol. 2 Bombers" that purport to be the G10N1, but the text is in Japanese!! Mayday!!

Would it be possible for you to scan and post the two drawings from "Japanese Military Aircraft Illustrated, Vol. 2 Bombers"?
By the way, there was some discussion of the G10N and it's private-venture predecessor, the Nakajima Z, on the X-Planes board. I believe Ed Dyer posted a 3-view of the Z there.

Cheers,
Mike
