Tamiya A6M2 Type 21
By Dave Pluth

Kit #: 6416

Description

This is one of Tamiya "older" kits. While not quite up to todays standards for kits, it does have recessed panel lines and some pretty spiffy features.

Construction

It's been a long time since I built this kit and I don't remember a whole lot about it, but from memory, there were a couple of fit problems. There was a slight problem with the wing roots, but a bigger problem was with the canopy. You have two options with the canopy, open or closed (two entirely separate canopies for the chore are provided). Neither option fits correctly and you'll have to do a bit of filling with Crystal Clear or some such product.

The kit decals are overly thick and don't settle in very well. You can try using Solvaset, you might have a bit more luck with that than SuperSol etc.

Summary

While construction will take a bit longer with this kit as the fit isn't all that great, but it will build up into a nice little kit for your collection. Price: $14. If you are looking for a low price alternative to the Hasegawa kit, this would be one, however, I would spend the extra on the Hasegawa kit with the new tooling as it is a higher quality kit.
